Global I - A schedule

Through our bellwork today, we reviewed the steps of the Eightfold Path.
Then we updated our vaults & defined key vocabulary & VIP. This should be kept in your notes for binder checks.
As a class we filled in a review chart about the major religions discussed in this unit.

Lastly, we played pictionary review to prepare us for the midterm on Friday.

Freshman Seminar

Today we finished work on our Portfolio Projects. The project must  be handed in to me & complete before Wednesday in order to be excused from the final.
Project must include:
  • Mastery Statement
  • College Readiness Checklist
  • Parent Evaluation
  • Mentor Evaluation
  • Artifacts

Global I - B schedule

We began class with DEAR & binder checks.
Then we used individual whiteboards to create a venn diagram that compared & constrasted Hinduism & Buddhism. We disscussed our charts in class & added anything that was left out.
Then we worked through a worksheet together that compared all of the religions we have covered thus far.

A study chart was handed out to aid your study for the midterm exam.

Psychology

Today we finished our discussion worksheet on A Beautiful Mind. Then we discussed therapy options for people suffering from psychological disorders.
For the remainder of class we worked on a hands-on part of our final....Illustrated Disorders. Each student randomly selected a disorder to illustrate. They must produce a picture, painting, sketch - an artwork that represents their given disorder. They must include a 5-sentence summary that explains their disorder & how it was illustrated.

Global I - B schedule

Today we used post-it notes to produce feedback about the Judaism project. We put our post-its on the issue bin & discussed them in class. We also wrote in our Writing History about the advantages of monotheism.

In order to explore Buddhism more in depth, we watched a film about The Buddha. You needed to follow along & take notes on any significant/interesting facts.
 
Homework: complete Origins of Judaism worksheet.

Psychology

Today we discussed the first 3 questions of our worksheet that accompanies, A Beautiful Mind.

We finished the movie today in class. For tomorrow you need to complete the worksheet.

I also handed out a study guide for the final exam. Please use this along with your notes, past assignments, & your vaults to study.  The final will be over personality, stress, & psychological disorders.

What are the Vedas & why are they significant?

Your Judaism Projects are due by 5:00 pm today! Please attach your documents & email them to me. I will respond when I receive your email. Therefore, if you do not get a response - resend it!
Today we used post-it notes to produce feedback about the project. We put our post-its on the issue bin & will discuss them.
In class, we did the Origins of Judaism worksheet together. We also wrote in our Writing History about the advantages of monotheism.
Next we worked with a partner to complete an activity that compared the religions we've discussed in this unit.
Lastly, you received a chart to complete & use to study the religions of the IndoEuropeans.
On Monday, December 13 we will review for our midterm exam.

Freshman Seminar

Today we continued work on our Freshman Portfolio projects. In class you should have completed the college readiness checklist. Many of you still need to schedule a time to meet with me to do the Mentor Evaluation. Remember we will have some time to finish our projects on  Monday, December 13, but they are due by the end of the day. So, make sure you have your Parent Evaluations completed before then.

Academic Assistance

Unfortunately, I had to dismiss AA early today due to illness. I gave the following assignment to enhance your study materials which will help you for our upcoming midterm.

Outline pgs. 72-82 in the textbook and answer #3-7 on pg. 76 in your notes. You should also add to the flashcards you made last week in AA with any terms/ideas from pgs. 72-82.

I will be available tomorrow morning @ 7:30 or in the afternoon tomorrow until 4:30 for you to make up this AA. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Today we finished our notes on Psychological Disorders & discussed schizophrenia. We began watching the film, A Beautiful Mind, which is based off of the true story of a man who suffered from schizophrenia. A worksheet has given to go along with the movie. Questions 1-3 must be answered for class on Thursday.

Then we read through a primary source about Siddhartha Gautama. We updated our vault by drawing a picture of him & describing him. Then we had a Writing History assignment to explain the life of the Buddha & his beliefs.
Next, we looked at a map of the spread of Buddhism & answered questions with our table partner.
Then we discussed the eightfold path of Buddhism & did a fun class activity.

Freshman Seminar

Today we spent all class period working on the Mastery Statement for our Freshman Portfolio projects. This project will take the place of  your midterm exam & will be weighted as such.

Mastery Statement

This essay will address 3 required topics & 1 optional topic describing your path in gaining the skills taught and refined in each of your core classes:
What were your two biggest obstacles or frustrations this semester?
What are some of the important skills and knowledge you have gained?
What do you feel are your two greatest accomplishments during the course of this semester? Explain and refer to at least two artifacts.

Your project should also contain the following:
  • 4 Key Artifacts from 3 core classes + 1 elective course (16 altogether)
  • Checklist for College Readiness
  • Parent Evaluation
  • Mentor Evaluation
We will work on our projects again on Wednesday & Monday, December 13. Your finished project is due on the end of the day on Monday, December 13. If it is not completed by the due date, you must attend the designated final time (Wednesday, Dec. 15 @ 8:00am). Please schedule a time to meet with me to complete your Mentor Evaluation.

Who was the founder of Buddhism?

Today we reviewed our knowledge thus far of the religions spread by the IndoEuropeans.
To further our knowledge of Buddhism we viewed a film about The Buddha. While watching we jotted down interesting facts in our notes section in our binders. These will be checked during our next binder check.

Freshman Seminar

  Today we finished our work with Shades of Simon Gray & turned it in. All work must be in by the end of the day. All books must be returned on Monday.
  Next, we completed our College Visit Worksheets. We also took the time to write letters to our tour guides thanking them for showing us around Clemson & Anderson universities.
  Lastly, we discussed our upcoming Freshman Portfolio project. You will need a folder portfolio to keep your work in. Please schedule a time with me to do your mentor evaluation. We will work on our Mastery Statement in class on Monday. Please make sure you have your packet of information with you.
