   Today we discussed what culture is after reading from our book. Then we graphed it on the board and in our notes. We took a look at cultural norms & patterns and then discussed how being "politically correct" might relate to our culture's norms. We wrote 1 thorough paragraph in our journals on this topic in class. This will be checked at the next binder checks.
   Then we used post it notes to visualize cultural universals. We wrote our ideas & then organized them into categories. We took notes along with a powerpoint that took us through ethnocentrism & cultural relativism.
   Lastly, a group project was assigned regarding cultural univerals & rites of passage. We will work in groups to conduct research on how 5 different cultures differ in their practices of a major rite of passage. Birth, attaining womanhood/manhood, marriage, divorce, death, etc… Your research topic must be approved & tasks must be assigned.
   Use your research to create a booklet, PowerPoint presentation, or other approved product.We will spend 1 class in the media center working on the assignment. The assignment is worth a quiz grade (30%). Each group must have proof of research, a citation page, & a final product. Groups will present final products on Tuesday, February 1.

We will be in the media center on Thursday to work on our projects.
