Global 1 - A schedule

  We took our map quiz over African countries today & graded them in class.
  We briefly reviewed African Empires & placed them geographically.
  Then we looked at an example of storytelling by reading from Sundiata: An Epic of Old Mali.   We read this aloud with our table partner & answered questions about the griot's tale.
  As a class, we examined the Great Zimbabwe empire & completed a Writing History.

Global 1 - A schedule

  We briefly reviewed Friday's lesson about environmental concerns in Africa & how the people adapt to those environments. We discussed & completed the "Diverse Societies" worksheet with a partner in class.
  Then we took notes on the migrations of the Bantu-speaking peoples & the effects of migration. We discussed potential reason for migration....push-pull factors. Then we worked through a handout in class which covered adaptations the Bantu had to make & the effects on others.
  We used a map to geographically & culturally map several rising empires in Africa. We discussed the Efe, the Almoravid, Ghana, Mali, & Songhai civilizations. Then we looked at an example of storytelling by reading from Sundiata: An Epic of Old Mali. We will finish reading & discuss on Wednesday.

Homework: Complete "Identifying Problems" worksheet. Study for map quiz!!

  We began class by finishing our group work on Genghis Khan.
  Then we took notes along with a powerpoint about the Turks & Islam. We discussed the stereotypes Muslims are often labeled with. 
  Muslims have also made many advancements in the field of science & art....read in your textbook on pgs. 275-279 & write down significant accomplishments.
  Wednesday we will read an excerpt from the Qur'an, review briefly, & take a quiz over the last half of the unit we've covered.

What are the Crusades? How did they begin?

  We began class with DEAR & binder checks. Then we briefly reviewed our notes about Islam and discussed the stereotypes Muslims get labeled with. We read about the prophet Muhammad & the importance of Mecca.
  Muslims have also made many advancements in the field of science & art....read in your textbook on pgs. 275-279 & write down significant accomplishments.
  Tuesday we will read an excerpt from the Qur'an, review briefly, & take a quiz over the last half of the unit we've covered.

Today we began our first day of Heritage Keepers.

Remember that all missing/late assignments need to be turned in by Wednesday if you want any credit.

Freshman Seminar

For the first half of class we read Shades of Simon Gray. You should have read through chapter 10 by now.
Then we made character cards with our table partner. For Wednesday, you need to have #4 (pg.1) & #3 (pg.2) completed. We will begin Heritage Keepers on  Monday, but please report to class as usual & then we will split up.

We worked on questions #1-3 of our worksheet during class & you need to finish #4 before Wednesday.
For Wednesday's classs you need to have read through Chapter 10.

We spent our time today in the media center working on the College Search WebQuest. The webquest needs to be completed by Wednesday, November 10.

Your mini-CSE's on integrity were due today in class.
Your split character trait worksheet are due by the end of school on Friday if they weren't turned in today.
