We looked at an article about the current government in Russia & completed a handout to go along with it.
Your Unit 6 Vault were handed out in class as well. You should create a pocket/foldable where it directs you to.

Sociology
Today we had DEAR & binder checks for the first several minutes of class. Then we briefly reviewed our notes about crime characteristics & conflict resolution. We broke into groups of 3 to analyze a scenario in which we had to resolve conflict. We shared our solutions to each group's scenario in class.

Global I - B schedule
We began class as usual on Fridays with DEAR & binder checks. Then we briefly reviewed our knowledge of the Punic Wars by filling in the timeline on our Rome Vault.
We finished our video on the Barbarian Wars & went over the video notes in class together.
Then we discussed the environment in Rome after the wars as the republic was losing ground.
We will talk about the empire & dictators that emerge in Rome on Tuesday.
Homework: Complete worksheet pgs. 57-58 "The Roman Empire"

Global I - B schedule
Why are myths an important part of Greek culture?
We had binder checks today & computers in the classroom. We spent the whole class in our partner sets working on the MythMaker assignment. Remember for any of the 4 options you must have proof of research (notes, printouts, rough drafts, etc...), a Citation Page, & a final product (booklet, skit lines, visual aid, family tree, etc...). We will present our MythMaker work on Tuesday, January 25.
Remember you will have a map quiz on Thursday, January 27.
Homework: Finish work for MythMaker assignment.

For the first few minutes of class we had DEAR & binder checks. Please make sure your binders are set up according to instructions.
We began our vocabulary section with Set 1 of 12 terms. You had time in class to do this & it should stay in the vocabulary section of your binder.
We reviewed the founding fathers of sociology & took notes on the theoretical perspectives. Select one of the three news passages on pg. 3 to write a brief essay (10-12 sentences) that describes how adopting each of the 3 perspectives might affect your view of the chosen passage.Consider what functionalists might focus on, the interests of conflict theorists, the interests of interactionists. If you did not finish in class it needs to be done as homework for Tuesday.
Homework: Read the Case Study on pg. 28 & answer the "Think About It" questions.

Global Studies 1 - B schedule
Where is Greece?
Today we began our new unit on Ancient Greece. We took notes along with a powerpoint about the important geographical features of Greece.
New mapwork was given which focuses on the ancient city-states that divided up Greece. You will also be responsible for knowing the highest point in Greece & the surrounding seas. The map quiz will take place on Thursday, January 27.
We continued with our notetaking to learn about the 3 different cultural influences of Greece - Mycenaean, Minoan, & Dorian. In class we drew a chart which illustrates these influences. This should be kept in the notes section of your binder.
Our new unit section for our vaults were distributed & you must create a government foldable for it by Friday, January 21.

The we studied & discussed the map on pg.59. We revisited our map skills with a worksheet on hemispheres & continents.
Next, we used a consensogram to measure our beginning knowledge of the IndoEuropeans. Your new vault units were given today. You need to create 1 foldable for the three religions we will cover in this unit.
Exitwork: How was the Arabian Peninsula well situated to take part in world trade?

We took notes along with a powerpoint presentation to discover the culture of ancient Sumer & Mesopotamia. In class, we examined ancient proverbs that help us understand Mesopotamian values & social standards. Then we discussed King Hammurabi & his greatest achievements.
Please be prepared for DEAR & binder checks at the beginning of class tomorrow.
