discovering the sub-regions of Europe

Today we worked in groups to complete an assignment in which we discovered the four diverse regions of Europe. Each group had to find specific essential information, create an infographic based on the research, and present their findings to the class. As each "region" presented we took notes - creating a table of information about each area.
We concluded class with our exit work based off of the map on pg. 317.

*Don't forget that your PostCard Project is due at the beginning of class tomorrow! Be sure to use your rubric in order to get the best grade possible!

*Also, prepare for the map test on Europe on Wednesday!

Sociology

  We began our new unit, Social Inequality. We took notes along with a powerpoint, completed a worksheet together in class about prestige, & began a discussion about poverty in the U.S.

  At the beginning of class we took our map quiz over the Mediterranean Region during the Roman Republic. We discussed & graded them in class.

  We briefly reviewed our notes about the government in Rome & then discussed their territorial & trade expansion. This led us to the Punic Wars....fought between Carthage & Rome. We read an article about Hannibal in class & discussed questions with our partner. We looked at a map of Ancient Rome & compared it to Carthage.

  In class we briefly reviewed our notes of the Golden Age and philosophy. Then we watched a few video clips about Plato's Republic. We continued our discussion of The Republic by taking notes along with a powerpoint & reading an excerpt in class. We used this excerpt to classify qualities of a good leader. Then we asked, "What is Justice?" We discovered that the questions can only be answered by more questions.

  We will continue our examination of The Republic on Friday. Please bring your Antigone Masks so we can do our comparison activity! Don't forget!

  Today we took a quiz over the 1st two sections of our Greece unit. We graded & discussed them in class.
  We reviewed the events of the Peloponnesian War & raced to put the events in order!
  Then we began taking notes on Greece's Golden Age. For Friday, please have your completed Writing History assignment in your binder.

Then we reviewed our previous groups of IndoEuropeans by working through a handout together in class.

We began our study of IndoEuropean religions by looking at the basic beliefs of Hinduism.
We will continue learning about Jainism & Buddhism next week.

Today we had DEAR & binder checks for the first several minutes of class.
The we studied & discussed the map on pg.59. We revisited our map skills with a worksheet on hemispheres & continents.
Next, we used a consensogram to measure our beginning knowledge of the IndoEuropeans. Your new vault units were given today. You need to create 1 foldable for the three religions we will cover in this unit.

At the beginning of class, we briefly reviewed our knowledge of the Qin & Han Dynasties.
Then we discussed a modern controversial topic in Chinese culture - the One Child Policy.
We read a related article on the policy & the affects it is having on modern society in China. We took Cornell notes as we read & summarized the article.
Then we viewed a film which also addressed the policy & how some people are attemping to solve the indirect problems it causes.

We examined the map on pg. 27 & discussed the first ancient river vally civilization - Mesopotamia.
We took notes along with a powerpoint presentation to discover the culture of ancient Sumer & Mesopotamia. In class, we examined ancient proverbs that help us understand Mesopotamian values & social standards. Then we discussed King Hammurabi & his greatest achievements.

We took a quiz over chapter 3 section 1 & reviewed it during class.
In class, you were assigned to read & outline pgs. 78-85. Through a powerpoint presentation, we learned about parenting styles & theories of social development. For homework, complete the worksheet that was handed out about Freud's theory of development.

Today we began our study of the Early River Valley Civilizations. We looked first at the Mesopotamian civilization. We took notes along with a powerpoint presentation. We examined a primary source of ancient proverbs which gave us insight into the values & social standards of the people in Sumer. Then we learned about the first established lawcode - created by Hammurabi. We examined outside materials about Hammurabi's greatest achievements as a  Mesopotamian ruler.

We finished our tests today and began a new unit on Infancy & Childhood. In class you were asked to briefly read & outline pgs. 61-65 in your notes. Then we discussed the controversial topic of Nature vs. Nurture. We viewed a video clip, read an article, and discussed our opinions on the topic.

Today we discussed observable & unobservable behaviors.
Assigned exit work was to discuss the theory of birth order & how it affects one's behavior.
