Today we tested over Early River Valley Civilizations.
As we waited for our classmates to finish their tests, we completed a Egyptian Wordsearch.

Then we received the new vault unit on Ancient China. We defined the first 4 vocabulary terms in our notes & created our foldables.

We will discuss the effect of geography on Chinese culture on Thursday.

• Compare the Mesopotamians, Egyptians, & Harappans ability to make use of their environments.
• Identify which group you think made better use of what they had.
• Provide specific examples.

Finally, we worked in partners to complete a chart that compared all three civilizations.
Assigned homework: Complete worksheet.

Then you were given a study guide for the upcoming test on Childhood, Adolescence, & Adulthood. This needs to be completed as homework & turned in on Tuesday, October 5.

Today we took a quiz over our material on Adolescence. We graded them in class & discussed our results.
Then we took a look at the assigned homework from Thursday (song lyrics). We highlighted any transitions, suggestions of change, or prompts for choices within the lyrics. Then we discussed them & wrote a response about how the lyrics you chose can represent an idea of transition between adolescence & adulthood. Responses were turned in during class.
Your new vault for Adulthood was handed out to be added to your existing pages. We will discuss this on Thursday.
Finally, we took notes along with a powerpoint about the transitions and attitudes experienced throughout adulthood.

Please be ready to present your Teen Troubles project on Thursday, September 30.
Be preparing for our upcoming test - on childhood, adolescence, & adulthood - Tuesday, October 5!

Freshman Seminar

Today we took a summative assessment on Managing Yourself & Note-taking Methods.
Our test focused on methods of taking notes & compiling those notes into summaries or written responses. Then we used the laptops to answer a question about our strengths & weaknesses. This 2-paragraph response should be saved in your student folder to be graded.

Don't forget about Camp Greenville!
I will need forms signed & returned as soon as possible. Money must also be turned into me.

Freshman Seminar

Today we completed our lesson on taking notes from expository texts. We compared the information from 2 different articles about the process of learning & retaining knowledge.
Then we began a lesson on taking notes from video sources. We started watching a video about the effects of Hurricane Katrina. As we watched, we took notes to try to answer a purpose question we asked before the video.
Remember we will have a test over all material on Monday, September 20.

We finished our tests today and began a new unit on Infancy & Childhood. In class you were asked to briefly read & outline pgs. 61-65 in your notes. Then we discussed the controversial topic of Nature vs. Nurture. We viewed a video clip, read an article, and discussed our opinions on the topic.

Today's lesson began with examining an observation experiment. We discussed the problems one could encounter trying to gain all information just from observation. Then we defined terms on pg.35 to familiarize ourselves with key words.
Next, we discussed methods of research & potential problems and solutions of those research methods.
With a partner, we created charts to desribe the pros/cons of each research method.
Then we took notes about single-blind/double-blind experiments & the placebo effect.
In class, #1-4 on pg. 45 was assigned.

In your journal, describe a time/event when you experienced a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Remember we will have our first test (over chap. 1-2) tomorrow!
