Global I - B schedule

Today we reviewed our instructions for the upcoming Judaism Project.


We created an organizational tool to use to aid in our research today. We spent nearly all of our time in class today in the media center working on our projects. Make sure to use the recommended sites under the Global Studies Project category on the bottom right hand corner of this blog. Remember, you may not use wikipedia as a source. This is a major grade so be sure to meet all requirements & do your best!

Is stress necessary for survival?

Today's discussion was on stress & its affects on the human psyche. We started off by taking notes along with a powerpoint & discussion. Then we watched a film entitled, Stress: Portrait of a Killer. We took notes along with the video & then summarized our thoughts on stress & its affects.

We had our last day of Heritage Keepers today.
Please make sure all money & forms are turned in for our College Field Trip on Wednesday.

Psychology

Today we acted out our scenes of personality disorders. As a class, we discussed the disorders that were illustrated in each scenario.
Then we did an review activity with individual whiteboards.
After review, we took a quiz over Motivation, Intelligence, & Personality.
To finish class we read & discussed drug addiction & alcoholism.

After today's bellwork, we worked on a writing history assignment where we wrote a CSE to determine if trade or the alphabet was a more significant achievement.


We continued with our study of IndoEuropean religions by looking at the basic beliefs of Hinduism, Jainism, & Buddhism. At the end of our notetaking we took a quiz over what we've learned so far about the religions.

Today we also received instructions for our upcoming project on Judaism. We will spend Tuesday, November 30 in the media center working on our projects. The final project is due on Thursday, December 9.

  After today's bellwork, we worked on a writing history assignment where we wrote a CSE to determine if trade or the alphabet was a more significant achievement.
  We began our study of IndoEuropean religions by looking at the basic beliefs of Hinduism, Jainism, & Buddhism. At the end of our notetaking we took a quiz over what we've learned so far about the religions.
  Today we also received instructions for our upcoming project on Judaism. We will spend Monday, November 29 in the media center working on our projects. The final project is due on Wednesday, December 8.

We began class with our bellwork, DEAR, & binder checks.
Then we reviewed our previous groups of IndoEuropeans by working through a handout together in class.

We began our study of IndoEuropean religions by looking at the basic beliefs of Hinduism.
We will continue learning about Jainism & Buddhism next week.

We started off with DEAR & binder checks. Today we reviewed our homework & began a discussion about Personality Disorders. We took notes along with a powerpoint, watched a short video clip about obsessive-compulsive disorder, & worked in groups to create a character sketch of someone with a personality disorder.

On Tuesday we will discuss our sketches & take a quiz.

What were some of the technological achievements of the Hittites?


We began by reviewing our 1st 2 groups of Indo-Europeans, the Hittites & the Aryans.

We finished our discussion of the Rig Veda & illustrated the goddesses described.

We continued our notes with a powerpoint about 2 more groups of Indo-Europeans, the Minoans & the Phoenicians. Next, we read 2 articles about the Phoenicians & answered questions about them. We took turns teaching our article's information to our table partner.

At the beginnng of class we went over our Personality tests & reflected on the interpretations.  We furthered our knowledge of personality by discussing several main theories of personality. We took notes along with a powerpoint presentation.
Then we worked with our table partner to complete a chart in review of the theories.

Today we dug into our unit on the Indo-Europeans. We revisited our map skills with a worksheet on hemispheres & continents and we used a consensogram to measure our beginning knowledge of the IndoEuropeans.

Our Motivation Projects were presented today! We conducted peer reviews during each presentation & picked out the motivational theories that were used in each project. The required 2-page paper that accompanies your project needs to be emailed to me no later than the end of the day on Wednesday.

After our presentations, we reviewed our notes on intelligence. Then we discussed what determines & defines someone's personality. We updated our unit vaults & took a sample employment personality test.

Today we dug into our unit on the Indo-Europeans. We defined the vocabulary on our unit vault & illustrated 4 of the terms. We took notes along with a powerpoint on the first two groups of IndoEuropeans. We wrote in our Writing History section to answer, what would America be like if we operated under the caste system of the ancient Aryans?
Then we examined a primary source of the Rig Veda. We will continue our discussion of the Vedas on Wednesday.
Assigned Homework: Complete the worksheet pgs. 23-24.

Today we had DEAR & binder checks for the first several minutes of class.
The we studied & discussed the map on pg.59. We revisited our map skills with a worksheet on hemispheres & continents.
Next, we used a consensogram to measure our beginning knowledge of the IndoEuropeans. Your new vault units were given today. You need to create 1 foldable for the three religions we will cover in this unit.

Freshman Seminar

For the first half of class we read Shades of Simon Gray. You should have read through chapter 10 by now.
Then we made character cards with our table partner. For Wednesday, you need to have #4 (pg.1) & #3 (pg.2) completed. We will begin Heritage Keepers on  Monday, but please report to class as usual & then we will split up.

We took the first few minutes of class to go over our dynasties chart and to ask questions & discuss any of the material we've covered during our unit on ancient China. Then we took our test.

After finishing the test, you need to read and outline pgs. 61-65 & pgs. 72-76.

Psychology

How do we measure IQ?
Today we tested our intelligence by attempting to solve 4 sample questions from an IQ Test. Then we took notes along with a powerpoint about the theories of intelligence.
Next, we received our unit 8 vault & we added information to it about Howard Gardner & his theory of multiple intelligences. Then we defined our vocabulary from our vault.
For the remaining time in class, we worked with our groups to prepare for our motivation projects.

Global I - B schedule

At the beginning of class, we briefly reviewed our knowledge of the Chinese philosophies.

Then we discussed a modern controversial topic in Chinese culture - the One Child Policy.
We read a related article on the policy & the affects it is having on modern society in China. We took Cornell notes as we read & summarized the article.
Then we viewed a film which also addressed the policy & how some people are attemping to solve the indirect problems it causes.

To prepare for our upcoming test we broke into groups & each group researched a dynasty. We will share our charted results in review before the test on Thursday.

Today we briefly reviewed our discussion about theories of motivation & our current group projects.
Then we broke into our assigned groups to brainstorm ideas for our project.
We spent the majority of our class in the media center researching and beginning work on our Motivation Projects.

Global I - A schedule

How would followers of the three philosophical traditions of China react to the idea that "all men are created equal?"
  We discussed this question in class & reviewed our knowledge of Confucianism, Daoism, & Legalism.
  Next, we updated our vault by designed a graph or chart of our own. It needs to represent a topic from our unit that wasn't illustrated on the vault already. This will be graded in Friday's bindercheck.
  Then we broke into groups to complete a chart on the 5 dynasties that we covered. Each group then taught their dynasty to the rest of the class.

Be prepared for your test on Ancient China on Wednesday, November 10.

Freshman Seminar

Today we had class discussion about our book, Shades of Simon Gray & issues of academic integrity.
We worked on questions #1-3 of our worksheet during class & you need to finish #4 before Wednesday.
For Wednesday's classs you need to have read through Chapter 10.

Next, we briefly reviewed yesterday's notes on the Qin & Han Dynasties
To follow up with our discussion, we watched a film on the Great Wall of China. As we watched we wrote down at least 10 facts/concepts that would make good assessment questions.

Homework: complete worksheet on the Great Wall of China.

Psychology

We began class with DEAR & binder checks. Then we reviewed & graded our quizzes on Memory & Thought.
Next, we began our section on Motivation & Emotion by taking notes along with a powerpoint.
For Tuesday, we will finish our notes & begin work on a group project:

Motivation Project


You and your team are industrial psychologists who have been hired to create an ad. Choose a topic from the following: new snack food, new line of clothing, new communication device, new internet service, or new kind of car. Apply theories of motivation (drive-reduction, incentive theory, cognitive theory, etc…) and create a product name, a slogan, and a visual aid (photographs, powerpoint, video, skit, etc…) You must target a specific audience. We will have time in the media center to work on projects on Tuesday, November 9. Your product presentation will be Tuesday, November 16. This is a major project weighted at 40%.

*Cite any and all sources used throughout your research.
*Each team member must have at least one assigned task.
*Include a 2-page paper explaining how & why your team selected the product name, slogan, & image. *Explain who your target audience is & what motivational theory(ies) you applied.

o Use your textbook pgs. 313-327 as a reference.
o This must be typed in 12pt Times New Roman font and double-spaced.

Global I - B schedule

Today we discussed the rise & fall of the Qin Dynasty & the Han Dynasty.

We held a class discussion on the question..."Does the end justify the means?"
We connected this with our lesson on Shi Huangdi & his governing style. Then we wrote a letter to Shi Huangdi that goes in the envelope of our Unit 2 Vault.

After we took notes about the Han Dynasty, we discussed 4 questions with our table partner & we answered them in our notes.

Assigned homework: Complete the worksheet about the Han Dynasty.

Psychology

To begin with, we discussed the results of our Memorization Experiment & the 3 types of Memory. Demonstrating working memory & prompting effects, we participated in an memory experiment with random & everyday objects. Then we had to list as many of the objects as we could remember or circle the objects we recognized. The activity was followed by discussion on the effects & uses of prompting.
Then we divided the class into 3 groups to examine a part of our section on Thinking & Problem Solving. We shared our findings & took notes as a class.
Next, we participated in a creative problem-solving activity where we each had common objects. We had to work with a partner to repurpose our objects. We shared our repurposed items with the class.
Lastly, we worked on #1-4 on pg. 302.
We will discuss our quiz on Memory & Thought at the beginning of class tomorrow.

We reviewed the requirements for our mini-CSE's due on Wednesday.
Then we talked about our novel study for this unit, Shades of Simon Gray. We read through chapter one in class & discussed traits of 4 of the main characters. For our next class, you need to read through pg. 91 & finish the Split Character Trait worksheet that we worked on in class.
